Aluma Wallet

Have You Heard About Telebrands?

Aluma WalletTelebrands is a company that has a decent rep with independent inventors. They describe themselves as a “direct television marketing company that designs, manufactures and promotes personal care, pet care, and home products.” These are the kings of “as seen on TV products”. And they are open to invention submissions from independent inventors.

Pay attention: Telebrands does not invest in, fund, or advise you as an inventor. They will not patent your invention for you. But if you have your act together, and if you have a new consumer product with good potential for sale in retail stores, they might launch your product on television. You can begin the invention submission process with Telebrands online. Photo Credit: Courtesy of  Telebrands (Aluma Wallet)

Personal computer with ergonomic keyboard

Ergonomics

Personal computer with ergonomic keyboard

Learning and keeping the basics of ergonomics in mind while designing an invention could make the difference between a hit or miss at the marketplace. Which would you buy?  The comfortable office chair or the one that pokes you in the back? The sunglasses that hugs your face nicely or the one that fall off every time you bend over? Do you take into consideration how it feels to use something? Or smells, sounds, and looks? Photo Credit: Stockbyte/Getty Images

Twister

Twister

TwisterWith the passing of one of the inventors of Twister, Charles Foley; the delightful and sometimes awkward classic board game remains the first board game played with real human beings as pieces. However, as often happens when the world of businessmen meets the world of inventors, some historians do not give full credit of  the invention to the two inventors listed on the patent, Charles Foley and Neil Rabens. Sunscreen May Fail To Prevent Skin Cancer

Who Invented Sunscreen?

Sunscreen May Fail To Prevent Skin CancerOne of the first sunscreens was invented by chemist Franz Greiter in 1938. Greiter’s sunscreen was called Gletscher Crème or Glacier Cream and had a sun protection factor (SPF) of 2. The formula for Glacier Cream was picked up by a company called Piz Buin, named after the place Greiter was sunburned and inspired to invent sunscreen in. Franz Greiter also invented sun protection factor (SPF) in 1962, a standard for measuring the effectiveness of sunscreen when applied at an even rate of 2 milligrams per square centimeter.

One of the first popular sunscreen products was invented by airman and pharmacist, Benjamin Green in 1944. Green’s patented sunscreen was called Red Vet Pet, and his patent was bought by Coppertone who sold it as Coppertone Girl” and “Bain de Soleil”, in the early 1950s.

So you may have noticed I wrote “one” of the first. Who would have thought that the history of sunscreens was controversial?  At least four different inventors have been credited as being the first to invent sunscreen. Photo Credit: Getty Images
