Kubrick’s First Color Film Now Available for Streaming

The SeafarersStanley Kubrick’s first color film, The Seafarers (1953), is now available for streaming thanks the folks at IndieFlix.com.

One of several short films made early in his career, The Seafarers was a 30-minute documentary made for the Seafarers International Union in conjunction with the union’s magazine, The Seafarers Log. Featuring some of Kubrick’s later signature techniques, including a long sideways dolly shot, the film helped finance his first feature, Fear and Desire (1953).

For over 40 years, The Seafarers was considered lost, but a newly remastered version surfaced on DVD in 2008 and was later included as an extra to the Blu-ray release of Fear and Desire.
