Gamers were drooling over their computers last week after the Ouya game console project hit crowdfunding platform Kickstarter, raising $1 million within it’s first eight hours online. That number has since skyrocketed to a whopping 4.75 million, and there’s still 25 days to go until the deadline.

Of course, all the press that came along with it probably helped generate more backers for the Ouya project throughout the week. Some of the not-so-optimistic tech experts, writers and analysts have already started to express why they think it’s a scam, why it won’t be able to deliver what it promises, why its biggest strengths are also its biggest weaknesses, and so on and so forth. So could it all be true?

The skeptics could be right. But they could also be wrong. The Ouya Kickstarter page oozes with creative awesomeness, but nobody truly knows how everything will turn out until the ball gets rolling. For now, it’s obvious that this $99 Android-powered console and free-to-lay platform has captured many hearts all over the Internet, with new backers continuing to throw their money at it. And hey, the Ouya already has it’s own Wikipedia page, so that’s pretty nifty too.

Can it live up to all the crazy hype? There sure are a lot of challenges that come with transforming the video game console industry. Only time will tell if the Ouya can actually do it.
