Since music is a powerful universal language, it’s not surprising that a ton of startups would try to reimagine music media services for the social media age.

And that’s what we’ve been seeing in the past few years, literally hundreds of startup companies trying to come up with new versions of music services that exploit the potential of social media. Mobile music social networks in particular are a hotbed of innovation.

Here are reviews of two new social music services that caught my eye recently:

• Myxer Social Radio – is a mobile application designed to let groups listen to music together and talk about music they like on mobile phones. It’s available for devices running either Apple iOS or Android operating systems.
• Rockify TV has launched a public beta of its personalized, streaming music video service. Rockify wants to be the MTV of the social media era. But with so many contenders for those bragging rights, it faces an uphill climb.
