In writer/director Sean Durkin’s first feature length film, Elizabeth Olsen exhibits a maturity and depth beyond her years. By playing a girl escaping to her older sister’s house from a cult, the younger sister of the celebrity twins establishes herself as a serious actress. Martha Marcy May Marlene showcases Olsen’s talent and also explores the complexity of a sisterly relationship.
Olsen provides a tender emotional focal point in a flawed but disturbing movie. Sarah Paulson co-stars as Lucy, Martha’s estranged sister, and John Hawkes as the creepy cult leader. Martha Marcy May Marlene is currently playing in theaters. Read Beck Ireland’s review.
