Wine of the Week: Four Vines Zinfandel "The Maverick" 2008 (CA) $18

The 2008 Maverick Zin from Four Vines is a concentrated, well-spiced red wine made from old vines with dry-farmed roots that go down deep into the Shenendoah Valley at the base of California’s Sierra Foothills.

This is a spunky, fun-filled wine with generous fruit – largely raspberry, cherry and blackberry character laced with bits of black licorice and wraps up with an enticing vanilla bean-driven finish.  Zinfandel, an all-American wine that pairs well with the season’s grilled favorites, from pulled pork to pork chops and marinated steaks to burgers, brats and barbecued chicken.
