Wine of the Week: Penley Estate Phoenix Cabernet Sauvignon 2009 (Australia) $20

This Aussie 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon brings plenty of ripe currant fruit to the forefront.  Expect loads of blackberry, dark cherry and plum on the palate with a heady mix of black licorice and cocoa as the flavors evolve mid-palate.

Supple tannins, subtle oak influences and a decent finish round out this well-priced Coonawarra Cab. The Phoenix Cabernet Sauvignon would be a perfect pairing with grilled beef, game or lamb or turn it up a notch with a juicy rib-eye.
