Rand Paul returning to D.C. after attack

Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., who sustained multiple rib fractures and lung injuries during an altercation with his neighbor, is returning to Washington D.C. Monday for the first votes of the week, a source close to Paul told ABC.

The alleged assailant – 59-year-old Rene Boucher – was arrested by Kentucky State Police after the November 3rd attack and was charged with fourth-degree assault, authorities said.

“Senator Paul was blindsided and the victim of an assault,” a spokeswoman said last week.

Paul has been recuperating at home since the attack.

It is possible that federal charges will be filed against Boucher. Attacking a member of Congress is a federal crime.
