Liverpool fans have voted Dejan Lovren as the club’s joint player of the month for October after the defender received abuse on social media.
Lovren will share the award with Mohamed Salah after they both received 33 per cent of the votes from the open poll on the club’s website.
The Croatian has come in for criticism this season and was substituted after 31 minutes in the 4-1 defeat to Tottenham last month after he was at fault for Spurs’ first two goals inside the opening 12 minutes.
Lovren, who missed Liverpool’s win over Huddersfield last weekend after picking up an injury in the warm-up, expressed his disgust on social media after he received a death threat aimed at his family in a private message on Instagram.
However, supporters took to social media to encourage fellow fans to vote for Lovren in the monthly awards as a show of support for the central defender following the abusive message.
Jurgen Klopp is unsure if either Philippe Coutinho or Dejan Lovren will be fit to face Maribor.
Salah scored three goals in five games throughout October as Liverpool drew twice against Newcastle and Manchester United before the defeat to Tottenham was sandwiched between comprehensive wins over Maribor in the Champions League and a league victory against Huddersfield.
