The FAI have reached an agreement with Vera Pauw that will see her stay on as manager if the Republic of Ireland women’s team qualifies for the European Championships.

The tournament was initially scheduled to take place in the summer of 2021 but it was postponed until July 2022 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Ireland are unbeaten and top of group I after five games, they have three qualifiers left to play; away to Germany (September 19th), away to Ukraine (October 23rd), and home to Germany (December 1st).

We know that there is a lot of hard work ahead of us.

Dutch manager Pauw will remain in charge if the team qualifies for the tournament.

“It is fantastic to have the support of the FAI as we look to secure qualification for the UEFA Women’s European Championships, which will now be held in 2022,” she said. “We know that there is a lot of hard work ahead of us with three big games still to play, but it is a challenge for which we do everything in our power to succeed in.”

Pauw added: “The assistance of Ruud Dokter, Eileen Gleeson and Jan Willem van Ede has been invaluable since taking over as manager, so too has been the work of our backroom staff and the response from the players. If we can continue to work together then I’m sure that we will perform to our max at the moment.”
