Spain and Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos wants Paris Saint-Germain’s world-record signing Neymar to join his side in the next transfer window.
Neymar cost the Ligue 1 side £200m when he moved from Real’s arch-rivals Barcelona in the summer, and he has made an impressive start to life in France after registering 11 goals and seven assists in his first 12 games in all competitions.
Ramos told Spanish radio station Cadena Ser’s main football programme El Larguero: “I like to have the best and Neymar is one of them.
“I consider him to be a different player that makes a difference so, if it depended on me, if he came in December we have had a good time.
“Maybe it was easier for him to go to PSG instead of directly to Real Madrid. I think he’s one of the best in the world, but football goes around a lot and it’s very personal decisions.”
Ramos and Neymar battled as opponents during the latter’s time at the Nou Camp, where Neymar also emerged as a rival to Real’s Cristiano Ronaldo for the Ballon d’Or.
Ronaldo recently suggested that his club are weaker this season after selling key players such as James Rodriguez and Pepe, but Ramos says he does not agree.
He told Cadena Ser: “I do not agree with Cristiano, I think it’s an advantageous opinion. When we won the two Super Cups, nobody remembered anyone.
“I put more emphasis on injuries. The team is stronger when we’re all together. I do not miss anyone.”
