Blast Rocks Yemen’s City of Aden, Casualties Reported

Local sources report the bomb has been detonated in Yemen’s southern city by militants.

A group of militants detonated a car bomb, driving the vehicle into a government building in Yemen’s southern city of Aden, a source present on the scene told Sputnik.

The bomb detonated near the Finance Ministry in one of the districts of the city, the source said, adding that the explosion resulted in deaths and injuries.

A source present on the scene reported later that the blast, allegedly carried out by militants of al-Qaeda terrorist group, left one person dead and four others injured.

Yemen has been for years engulfed in a violent conflict between the government headed by President Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi and the Shiite Houthi movement, a predominantly Shia political opposition faction in Yemen who revolted against the country’s government, backed by army units loyal to former President Ali Abdullah Saleh. Since March 2015, the Saudi-led coalition of mostly Persian Gulf countries has been carrying out airstrikes against the Houthis at Hadi’s request.
