Russian Jets Scrambled Thrice in One Week to Chase Away Spy Planes

Russian military jets were scrambled thrice in the past week to chase away foreign reconnaissance planes.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) –  Russian Defense Ministry said Friday that the country’s military jets were scrambled three times in the past week to chase away foreign reconnaissance planes.

Twelve spy planes approached Russian borders during this period, including six on the western border, three in the Russian Artic, one on the southwestern flank and two in the east, according to an infographic in the Krasnaya Zvezda (Red Star) newspaper affiliated with the military.

The publication said there were no trespasses. A week earlier, Russian borders were patrolled by 17 foreign aircraft. Russian warplanes were scrambled twice to intercept them.
