World Trade Center Lights Up in Red, White and Blue to Honor NYC Victims

One World Trade Center in New York City was lit red, white and blue Tuesday night in honor of the eight victims who died during a terrorist attack that took place just blocks away in lower Manhattan earlier that day.

A statement from New York Governor Andrew Cuomo’s office said, “Governor Cuomo also directed that the One World Trade Center to be lit in red, white and blue in honor of freedom and democracy.”

The tower spire has previously been lit with the colors of the American flag and of other nations to honor victims of tragic events. Following the Barcelona attack in August that killed 13 and injured dozens of people, the tower was lit up with the colors of the Spanish flag.
